DISCOVER VIETNAM
Vietnam is amazingly diverse. It is a country with a remarkable history, rich culture, wonderful cuisine, mountain tribes and amazing landscapes. It is made up of spectacular limestone karsts, terraced rice paddies, lush tropical forests, stunning beaches, high mountains, and flat river deltas. It was a backpackers' best kept secret in the 1990s and has now become traveller’s nirvana in the 21st century. Vietnam has embraced "luxury" effortlessly, without losing any of its authenticity: an Indochina vacation is as stress-free as it is rewarding.
Vietnam is a long, thin country with extreme extremes: the northern areas bordering China are mountainous, while the Mekong Delta in the south is tropical. Although you can visit it at any time of the year, it is important to plan where to go to avoid the country's climatic differences; you will not want to go to the beaches in summer, for example, or to the northern mountains in winter.
From the mighty Mekong Delta in the south to spectacular Halong Bay in the north, Vietnam holidays serve up a land of mesmerising natural beauty. Ho Chi Minh City – formerly known as Saigon – offers a vivid introduction to the country’s fascinating and turbulent history, with its ornate temples and pagodas, elegant French colonial architecture and museums and memorials to the Vietnam War. The historic coastal city of Hoi An, invites visitors to step back in time and wander around its characterful old town, which has remained largely untouched since the late 19th century.
Then there's Hanoi, the nation's capital, a thriving cultural centre of tree-lined boulevards, colonial buildings, and modern skyscrapers, and the gateway to the Gulf of Tonkin, home to the more than 2,000 karst islands of Halong Bay.
